Thew Type O Steam Shovel

Thew Type O Steam Shovel

It was used to build the Wixom Lake Dam in Michigan which was completed in 1925. After the work was done on the dam the steam shovel was abandoned on the lake bed being too expensive to move or outdated by the advent of simpler cheaper diesel-powered shovels. Once the lake was filled it faded from the general publics memory. Fortunately over the ensuing years it became local legend. It reappeared on May 19, 2020 after the Wixom Lake dam failed and the water drained out of the lake. The steam shovel that has been under water for the last 100 years in Wixom Lake will be on display at our show grounds for the 2021 year show, and future shows.
